The heavily wooded town of McLean is located between the George Washington Parkway and the town of Vienna, and is known for its many upscale homes and for having a friendly, small-town atmosphere despite its proximity to the capital. The area is also well-known for its shopping and upscale malls, including the nearby Tysons Corner Center and the Galleria.

McLean is home to many diplomats and government employees, due to being near Washington, D.C. and being the location of the Central Intelligence Agency. It is also the home of former presidential advisor and presidential candidate Pat Buchanan, as well as the location of Hickory Hill, former and current residence of the Kennedy family.

McLean was founded in 1910, when the communities of Lewinsville and Langley merged. The town is named after Edward Beale McLean, publisher of The Washington Post from 1916 to 1933.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 47.9 km² (18.5 mi²). 47.9 km² (18.5 mi²) of it is land, and none of the area is covered with water.

McLean lies to the west of Arlington County, and is bordered by the Potomac River to the north.

Finding a McLean, VA Buyer's Agent:

The most important step is to find an agent that will work with you as your buyer's agent. Most state laws say that if you do not have an agreement with an agent to work with you as a buyer's agent, that agent has a duty to represent the seller.

Good negotiators build consensus. Avoid working with a buyer's agent that gets angry and argues with the listing agents.

Finally, remember that even though by law an agent's responsibilities end when your new home is under contract, most agents will assist you all the way until settlement. Make sure that your agent will be by your side until settlement and even after.

c) When interviewing an agent, most sellers want to know what the agent can sell their home for. Never base your decision on the number an agent will give you. In fact, if it sounds too good, you might as well walk away. Some people will tell you what you want to hear, just so they can get your business. The truth is that the agent does not determine the listing price. That is up to you to decide, and the market will decide if the price you selected was right or not.

Fees
There are numerous stories about people that tried to save a penny and ended up losing a dollar. Just remember the golden rule; you get what you pay for. This is the one transaction that you should not be stingy or greedy.

That does not mean that a good agent will be more expensive or that an average agent will be cheaper. You can find good agents that will charge a lower fee than many average agents do, so don't let the fee be the deciding factor.
